Texas A&M Aggies VS. Mercer Bears

Mercer (6-7) at Texas A&M (7-3)

GAME NOTES: Texas A&M gets back to the hardwood Tuesday night as the Aggies host the Mercer Bears in a non-conference tilt at Reed Arena.

The Aggies have not played since dropping a 71-64 decision to Kansas State on Dec. 20. Danuel House and Kourtney Roberson each scored 13 to lead Texas A&M, while Jordan Green finished with 11 points and Alex Caruso chipped in with 10 and six assists as the squad suffered a second defeat in three games.

After trailing by as many as 14 points in the second half, the Aggies were able to cut the deficit to just four with 15 seconds remaining in regulation, but the Wildcats were able to hold on at the free throw line, where they outscored Texas A&M by a 19-11 count.

On the season, Texas A&M is still outscoring its opponents by eight points per game, is forcing more than 15 turnovers per contest and is shooting a robust 48.8 percent from the floor. Jalen Jones certainly helps out the latter number by making 47.9 percent of his shots en route to a 12.7 ppg average. House has matched him with 12.7 ppg, while Alex Caruso boasts 9.1 points and 5.8 assists per game.

The Bears are coming off a heartbreaking triple-overtime loss at Georgia on Saturday. Jordan Strawberry, who scored a team-high 21 points off the bench, drained a 3-pointer at the regulation buzzer and hit the tying bucket with 1:32 left in the first OT. The teams went scoreless the rest of the period, and a third OT was forced when Georgia's Kenny Gaines made a layup with four seconds on the clock.

Georgia scored the first points of the third extra session and held on for the dramatic 86-77 decision, giving the Bears their third loss in four games, dropping them below .500 for the second time this season.

Leading scorer Ike Nwamu had his poorest outing of the season, shooting just 2-of-14 from the floor for eight points. Jestin Lewis and Darious Moten picked up the slack with 16 and 11 points, respectively.

Nwamu is still the only double-digit scorer for the Bears this season, averaging 17.5 ppg. The next closest scoring total belongs to T.J. Hallice, who is scoring 9.2 ppg for a team that is averaging 65.9 ppg as a unit. Mercer's defense had held strong though, allowing opponents to score just 63.1 ppg through the first 13 contests. Hallice owns a team-best 6.5 rpg average.

Texas A&M won the only other meeting against Mercer 24 years ago, and the Aggies should have little trouble putting down the Bears again in this one.

Predicted Outcome

Texas A&M 75, Mercer 65
