Recap: Syracuse vs. Miami-Florida
Syracuse, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Tonye Jekiri registered a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds to lift the Miami-Florida Hurricanes to a 66-62 decision over the Syracuse Orange in an ACC matchup at the Carrier Dome.
Angel Rodriguez added 12 points, eight assists and four steals for the Hurricanes (14-5, 4-2 ACC), who have now won four of their last five games. Davon Reed chipped in 11 points.
Syracuse (14-6, 5-2) came up short despite a stellar performance by Rakeem Christmas, who tallied 23 points, eight rebounds and two blocks in 40 minutes. Trevor Cooney contributed 14 points, while Tyler Roberson recorded a double- double for the Orange with 10 points and 14 boards. The loss was the second in three games for Syracuse following its seven-game winning streak.
The contest went into halftime tied at 26 after Miami hit on 44 percent of its field goal tries in the opening period. The Orange knocked down 3-of-7 attempts from 3-point range, but made good on just 1-of-4 tries at the charity stripe in the first half.
Syracuse heated up to sink 54.2 percent of its field goal attempts and outrebounded the visitors, 23-15, in the second stanza. However, the Hurricanes outscored the Orange, 10-7, at the free-throw line and also, 18-12, from beyond the arc after the intermission. Miami led for the final 19:51 of regulation.
The Orange finished 8-of-19 at the charity stripe and committed 13 turnovers. The Hurricanes tallied 17 assists against just eight miscues.
