SYRACUSE ORANGE

Syracuse Orange

Syracuse Orange VS. Miami Hurricanes

Miami-Florida (13-5) at Syracuse (14-5)

GAME NOTES: With each team looking to string a pair of wins together, the Miami-Florida Hurricanes and Syracuse Orange will clash head-to-head in an Atlantic Coast Conference bout at the Carrier Dome.

Miami is coming off a 65-60 win over NC State, which the Hurricanes picked up on Thursday night. The 'Canes have won three of their last four contests, which has boosted their record to 13-5 on the season. Away from home, Miami is also pretty strong at 3-1.

Syracuse outlasted Boston College on Tuesday, 69-61, just one game after the Orange crashed against Clemson, 66-53. The Orange will go for their second straight win and will try to get to 6-1 in conference play. At the Carrier Dome, the Orange are 11-1 this season.

Syracuse has taken command of the all-time series against Miami, leading 16-5. The Hurricanes have dropped all four of the latest meetings between these ACC rivals, and haven't won at Syracuse since 2001.

Miami was able to erase a seven-point NC State halftime lead with a very strong offensive showing in the second half Thursday. The Hurricanes netted 50 percent of their tries in the period, and held the Wolfpack to just 36.7 percent shooting as they made a complete comeback at home. Sheldon McClellan tallied a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds to pace the team, while Angel Rodriguez added 14 points and six assists in the victory. Davon Reed and Omar Sherman each scored 10 points, and Tonye Jekiri pulled down 10 boards for the Hurricanes.

McClellan and Rodriguez have both been dominant this season for Miami, and have been the centerpieces for several big wins. McClellan checks in atop the team's scoring leaderboard at 15.4 ppg, while Rodriguez adds in 14.5 ppg. Rodriguez has dished out a team-best 79 assists this season, and has recorded 37 steals as well. Jekiri pulls down 10.1 rpg for the Hurricanes, which is the best average in the ACC. Miami is netting 70.7 ppg on 44.9 percent shooting from the floor, and is allowing just 62.8 ppg to opponents.

Syracuse jumped way ahead of Boston College at halftime on Tuesday night, as the Orange went into the intermission leading the Eagles, 35-17. But an offensive outburst in the second half for the Eagles allowed the visitors to at least put a scare into the host Orange. Fortunately for Syracuse, the team's first-half advantage was enough of a cushion for the ACC victory. Michael Gbinije scored 17 points to pace the Orange, while Trevor Cooney chipped in with 15 points. Kaleb Joseph contributed 13 points and seven assists, Rakeem Christmas posted 12 points and seven rebounds, and Tyler Roberson rounded out a group of double-digit scorers for Syracuse with 10 points and six boards.

It's been a stellar season so far for Christmas, who leads Syracuse in both scoring and rebounding. The big man nets 18.0 ppg, which is good for second in the conference this season. His 8.9 rpg is first on the roster and fifth in the ACC. Then add in Cooney (14.1 ppg) and Gbinije (10.8 ppg) and the Orange have a solid scoring foundation. Syracuse is producing 68.8 ppg on 43.8 percent shooting, and is holding opponents to 59.5 ppg this season with that tough zone defense. Joseph has taken over the role of point guard for the Orange after star freshman Tyler Ennis departed for the NBA. Joseph leads the team with 94 assists this season, and adds in 7.1 ppg.

Miami has been on fire since conference play started, and Rodriguez and McClellan have been two huge reasons why. But Syracuse is almost unstoppable at the Carrier Dome, and if the Orange can get another well-rounded effort from multiple outlets in this contest, Syracuse could very easily be 12-1 at home when all is said and done.
