Recap: Stanford vs. USC
Stanford, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Chasson Randle scored 18 points and connected on a perfect 10-of-10 from the free-throw line as the Stanford Cardinals blew out the USC Trojans, 80-59, in a Pac-12 showdown at Maples Pavilion.
Dwight Powell netted 14 points, and Anthony Brown chipped in with 13 points for Stanford (17-8, 8-5 Pac-12). Josh Huestis notched a double-double with 11 points and 18 rebounds in the win, which was the fourth in five games for the Cardinals.
Pe'Shon Howard scored 13 points to pace USC (10-16, 1-12), while Julian Jacobs contributed 11 points and eight rebounds in the losing effort. The Trojans have lost seven consecutive games.
Stanford shot a dismal 28.6 percent from the floor in the first half, including just 1-of-13 from 3-point distance. But the Cardinals did connect on 11-of-16 from the free-throw line, and took a 32-23 lead into the intermission. USC shot 34.6 percent, and hit 2-of-7 from deep and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe.
The Cardinals took further control in the second half by hitting 52.9 percent of their shots, again netting 11 from the free-throw line. The Trojans improved in the period, but not by much, shooting 37.5 percent and just 2- of-10 from beyond the arc.
Stanford had the edge from the free-throw line, 22-13, and in fast break points, 14-2. USC outscored the Cardinals from 3-point range, 12-6.
