Recap: Stanford vs. Arizona State
Stanford, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Chasson Randle and Anthony Brown both scored 21 points as the Stanford Cardinal dismissed the Arizona State Sun Devils, 89-70, in Pac-12 Conference play at Maples Pavilion.
Also scoring in double figures for Stanford (14-5, 5-2 Pac-12) were Stefan Nastic and Rosco Allen with 20 and 12 points, respectively, the latter also clearing a team-best eight rebounds. With the victory Stanford has now claimed four of the last five outings.
Arizona State (10-10, 2-5), which had a two-game win streak snapped, was paced by Savon Goodman who tallied 18 points in 19 minutes off the bench.
The Sun Devils led by three points early on in the meeting, but once the Stanford offense kicked into gear there was no stopping the host. The Cardinal made good on a stellar 70.4 percent from the floor in the first half, including 5-of-6 behind the 3-point line, en route to a 51-41 advantage at the break.
ASU, which knocked down 48.4 percent from the floor through the first 20 minutes of action, also shot the ball well on the outside (8-of-14).
In the second half the Sun Devils not only dipped to just 38.7 percent accuracy from the field, they also missed on all seven tries beyond the arc. The Cardinal cooled off as well, hitting field goals at a 46.2 percent clip, but still the team's advantage grew to as much as 23 points before settling on the 19-point victory.
Stanford finished the meeting with 58.5 percent accuracy from the floor overall and outscored the visitors at the free-throw line by a 19-8 margin.
