STANFORD CARDINAL

Stanford Cardinal

Stanford Cardinal VS. Arizona St. Sun Devils

Arizona State (10-9) at Stanford (13-5)

GAME NOTES: Stanford hopes to bounce back from its first home loss of the season on Saturday when it welcomes the Arizona State Sun Devils to Maples Pavilion for a Pac 12 affair.

Stanford lost for the first time in 10 home contests and saw a three-game winning streak come to an end with an 89-82 setback to seventh-ranked Arizona. The loss also dropped the Cardinal to 4-2 in conference play.

Arizona State, meanwhile, has won two in a row after four straight losses to start Pac 12 play, following an easy 79-44 win over California on Thursday.

Stanford took two of three from Arizona State a season ago, including a quarterfinal matchup in the Pac-12 Conference Tournament, and has beaten it in eight of the last 10 matchups.

Chasson Randle scored 26 points to lead Stanford in Thursday's losing effort, while, Anthony Brown added 18 points and nine rebounds and Stefan Nastic scored 10 in the setback.

The Cardinal actually led with five minutes left in the game, but a late 9-0 spurt by Arizona put the game out of reach.

Despite the loss it was a record setting night for Randle, who became just the third Stanford player to reach 2,000 points and 15th in conference history. UCLA's Jason Kapono was the last to reach the milestone, in 2003. Randle has scored 2,014 career points and trails only Todd Lichti (2,336) and Adam Keefe (2,319) in school history. Randle is also 12 minutes away from becoming Stanford's all-time leader in career minutes played

Stanford is shooting a modest .442 from the field this season, but that number is a bit deceiving, since the team possesses several high-end scorers, led by Randle, who ranks first in the Pac-12 with 22.8 ppg. Randle gets plenty of help in the scoring column by Brown (seventh in the league at 15.4 ppg) and Nastic (14th in the league at 13.9 ppg).

Arizona State's victory was never in doubt on Thursday, as Bo Barnes came off the bench to net 17 points and Kodi Justice scored 16 points, hitting all four of his 3-point field goal tries. Savon Goodman led the Sun Devils with seven rebounds in the win, which moved them out of the cellar in the Pac 12.

The Sun Devils, who held Cal to just 13 points in the first half, saw their bench contribute 48 points to the team's winning effort, a number which ultimately surpassed Cal's total scoring effort (44).

Shaquiell McKissic and Gerry Blakes are tied for the team lead in scoring at 10.6 ppg, while both Eric Jacobsen and Goodman check in at 10.0 ppg. Jacobsen is also the team leader with 6.6 boards per game. As a group, the Sun Devils are scoring 69.6 ppg, while connecting on 45.5 percent of their shots, including a .375 clip from beyond the arc.

As good as Arizona State has looked this past week it will have its hands full inside what should be a raucous Maples Pavilion following the Cardinal's first home loss of the season. Randle will be too much for the Sun Devils to hands and Stanford should have no problem getting back on track in this one.

Predicted Outcome

Stanford 68, Arizona State 63
