St. Joseph's Hawks VS. UMass Minutemen

Massachusetts (11-8) at Saint Joseph's (7-9)

GAME NOTES: The Massachusetts Minutemen try to stay perfect in Atlantic 10 Conference road games on Wednesday night when they enter Hagan Arena to take on the Saint Joseph's Hawks.

Massachusetts has emerged victorious in both of its league road games to date. The Minutemen have won three of their last four tilts overall, including Saturday's 60-56 triumph over Rhode Island in Amherst.

Saint Joseph's, on the other hand, has dropped five of its last six contests. The Hawks are coming off Sunday's 70-61 setback at St. Bonaventure and will now play their next four games in Philadelphia.

UMass leads the all-time series with the Hawks, 34-30.

The Minutemen shot just 36.4 percent from the floor against Rhode Island, but they committed a season-low 10 turnovers, including only three in the second half. They also scored 19 points off 15 URI turnovers and held a key 18-3 edge in second-chance points. UMass closed the game on a 13-3 run, highlighted by a pair of 3-pointers from Zach Coleman, who finished with 13 points in 14 minutes off the bench. Maxie Esho (13.4 ppg, 6.7 rpg) led all scorers with 18 points in the win to go along with six rebounds and three blocks. Donte Clark rounded out the team's double-digit scorers with 10 points.

Along with Esho, Cady Lalanne (12.1 ppg, 9.3 rpg), Trey Davis (10.6 ppg) and Derrick Gordon (10.5 ppg) are also averaging double figures and have started every game this season.

Saint Joseph's struggles to this point are largely due to an inept offense, as the team ranks 12th in the A-10 in scoring (62.6 ppg) and free-throw percentage (.634), and 13th in field goal shooting (.421). The Hawks have not fared much better at the defensive end, either, considering six of their last seven opponents have shot 40 percent or better. DeAndre' Bembry leads the team in scoring (16.6 ppg) and rebounding (6.6 rpg), followed by Isaiah Miles with 10.3 points and 5.4 boards per tilt. Bembry went 6-of-9 from the perimeter against St. Bonaventure en route to a career-high 27 points, but the Hawks shot just 33.3 percent as a team. Miles joined Bembry in double figures with 10 points, albeit on just 3-of-10 shooting from the floor.

History is working against UMass in this matchup. The home team has won the last eight meetings in the series, and it has been 15 years since the Minutemen last won their first three A-10 road games.
