Seton Hall Pirates

Seton Hall Pirates VS. George Washington Colonials

George Washington (3-1) at Seton Hall (4-0)

GAME NOTES: The Seton Hall Pirates put their flawless record on the line on Saturday afternoon, as they welcome the George Washington Colonials to the Prudential Center for a non-conference matchup.

Mike Lonergan's Colonials have won three of their first four games of the 2014-15 season, with the lone loss coming at top-10 foe Virginia last Friday (59-42). George Washington was able to get some distance from that loss this week with Wednesday's 91-66 rout of Longwood.

Kevin Willard's Pirates have yet to taste defeat this year. The team has played just once at home, the season opener against Mercer (63-47), but is still a perfect 4-0 on the year, capturing the Paradise Jam tournament title, with wins over Nevada, Gardner-Webb and Illinois State.

This marks the fifth all-time meeting between these two teams. Seton Hall has won three of the previous four matchups, but it was George Washington with the last victory, a 72-63 decision in 1999.

The Colonials showed very little offensively against the stingy Cavaliers two games ago, but made up for it against Longwood, torching the Lancers for 91 points, thanks to a sizzling .518 efficiency from the floor. Five Colonials notched double digits in the win, led by John Kopriva's 19 points. Kevin Larsen poured in 16 points, followed by Patricio Garino (12 pts), Kethan Savage (11 pts) and Nick Griffin (11 pts).

The offensive numbers for George Washington aren't too bad and that is taking into account the mere 42 points scored against Virginia. On the year, the Colonials are averaging 73.8 ppg. That should be plenty of offense for a team that has really thrived defensively. GW is allowing just 54.5 ppg this season, allowing foes to convert just 37.7 percent from the field. Savage leads a trio of Colonials in double-digit scoring at 13.5 ppg. Garino and Larsen round out the group with 12.0 and 10.0 ppg, respectively.

Seton Hall is producing 75.0 ppg, a number fueled by the scorching start by junior guard Sterling Gibbs. He has certainly lived up to his first name in the early going, shooting .542 from the floor and an eye-popping .632 from behind the arc, en route to an impressive 22.0 ppg. Senior forward Brandon Mobley is a distant second in the scoring column at 10.3 ppg. Jaren Sina (9.8 ppg) and Isaiah Whitehead (9.0 ppg) are just under double digits on the year.

in the championship game of the Paradise Jam, it was Gibbs who erupted for a career-high 40 points, as Seton Hall captured its first in-season tournament title since 2007. Gibbs was in a zone, hitting 10-of-14 shots from the floor, including 7-of-9 from 3-point range in the win. Whitehead poured in 18 points and doled out eight assists, while Sina chipped in with 11 points for Seton Hall, which shot .512 from the floor overall, including 12-of-18 from 3-point range (.667).

Gibbs will once again be the best player on the court in this contest. The Colonials have played good defense thus far, but if they don't contest everything Gibbs puts up and stop him early, than Seton Hall will remain unbeaten.
