Richmond Spiders VS. William & Mary Tribe

William & Mary (5-1) at Richmond (2-3)

GAME NOTES: William & Mary and Richmond continue their longtime rivalry Wednesday when the Tribe visit the Spiders at the Robins Center.

Wednesday will be the 200th meeting between the programs, and Richmond holds a slim 102-97 advantage in the series.

William & Mary is looking to build off a five-game winning streak following a season-opening loss to nationally-ranked Florida. The club improved to 5-1 for its best start since the 1992-93 season after upending Wofford, 66-62, last Saturday.

Marcus Thornton scored 25 points, and the Tribe shot a red-hot 65.6 percent from the field on the day -- good for the seventh-best shooting effort in school history.

Omar Prewitt contributed to the scoring effort with 13 points, while Sean Sheldon netted 10 points and pulled down six rebounds.

William & Mary dominated early as it led 14-0 at the 15:43 mark in the first half. Wofford never led but pulled within two points before the Tribe held on with enough free throws down the stretch.

Thornton's scoring average has risen to 17.0 ppg for William & Mary, which is limiting opponents to 58.3 ppg.

Things have not gone as well for Richmond, which fell to undefeated Northern Iowa, 55-50, on Sunday and has lost three of its last four overall.

The Spiders, who could not overcome a 15-point halftime hole, were led by Trey Davis with his double-double consisting of 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Kendall Anthony contributed 12 points in the setback.

Anthony's average dipped to 15.4 ppg, but he still paces the Spiders in scoring. T.J. Cline and Terry Allen are both average over 10.0 ppg, while Alonzo Nelson-Ododa is putting up 9.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per outing.

Richmond has won the last four meetings against William & Mary and is 2-0 in home games thus far. William & Mary, though, is playing at another level right now, and Thornton and the Tribe should have their way.
