RICHMOND SPIDERS

Richmond Spiders

Richmond Spiders VS. Wake Forest Demon Deacons

Wake Forest (6-6) at Richmond (7-4)

GAME NOTES: The Wake Forest Demon Deacons get back to work following a holiday break, as they take on the Richmond Spiders in a non-conference matchup at the Robins Center on Sunday afternoon.

Danny Manning's first season in Winston-Salem has been a mixed bag thus far. The Demon Deacons are an even 6-6 on the young season. The team has however, claimed victory in two of its last three games, including a 60-53 decision over Bucknell last Sunday.

Chris Mooney's Spiders are 7-4 on the season and enter this contest playing their best basketball to date, with a four-game win streak in tow. Richmond opened a three-game homestand back on Dec. 23 with a 57-53 win over IUPUI and will close out the set on New Year's Eve against Northeastern.

These two rivals are meeting for the 52nd time. Wake Forest holds a 39-12 lead in the all-time series, including a 76-66 victory in a meeting last season.

The Demon Deacons have struggled with offensive consistency this season, a huge factor in the team's overall record. Wake Forest enters this contest averaging a modest 69.8 ppg, doing so on .418 shooting. An obvious area of strength however, has been on the glass, where Wake is boasting of a +9.1 rebounding margin. The team doesn't have much in the way of scoring depth, as Codi Miller-McIntyre and Devin Thomas represent the only double-digit scoring averages on the roster. Miller-McIntyre is getting it done with volume as his 145 shots are far and away the most on the team. However, his team-best 13.1 ppg comes on just .407 shooting efficiency. Thomas adds 10.8 ppg and is a strong rebounder, grabbing a team-best 9.4 rpg.

Wake Forest once again put up modest offensive numbers against an opponent, but Bucknell was unable to take advantage, as the Bison were held to an ugly .286 shooting effort last week. The Demon Deacons did place three players in double figures in the seven-point victory, led by Miller-McIntyre's 19 points. Darius Leonard added 11 points and Greg McClinton finished with 10, while Thomas chipped in with eight points and a team-high 11 boards.

Richmond held a seven-point lead at the half against IUPUI and were able to hold off the Panthers' second-half surge to earn their fourth straight win last week. The Spiders were outrebounded at home (30-25), but hit 10 3- pointers in the victory. Kendall Anthony led the offensive charge with 19 points. 15 of which came behind the 3-point line. Shawn'Dre Jones added 11 points off the bench for Richmond, which shot .457 from the floor overall, including a sizzling .556 from behind the arc (10-of-18).

The Spiders are certainly no offensive juggernaut this season, with a 61.6 ppg average, but the team has been efficient, delivering on 45.7 percent of its shots. The team is getting outrebounded by 4.4 caroms per contest, but holds a +2.2 turnover margin to counter it. Anthony is the top offensive threat on the roster at 14.8 ppg. Terry Allen joins him in double figures with 10.5 ppg, while TJ Cline (9.4 ppg) is just under that mark.

Neither team has dominated this season, but Richmond is a perfect 6-0 at home and should find a way to remain unbeaten at the Robins Center and improve on its current win streak.

Predicted Outcome

Richmond 66, Wake Forest 63
