Recap: Providence vs. St Johns
Providence, RI (SportsNetwork.com) - D'Angelo Harrison and Phil Greene IV each netted 20 points as the St. John's Red Storm defeated the Providence Friars at the Dunkin' Donuts Center, 83-70, in Big East Conference play.
Sir'Dominic Pointer contributed to the victory with 18 points and eight rebounds for St. John's (12-4, 1-3 Big East). Rysheed Jordan also added to the scoring effort with 17 points.
LaDontae Henton led the Friars (13-5, 3-2) in scoring with 22 points. Kris Dunn had a double-double (17 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds) while Tyler Harris tallied 12 points and Ben Bentil grabbed 10 rebounds in the loss.
St. John's shot an impressive 55.2 percent from the field in the opening period, including 8-of-13 from 3-point distance. The Red Storm also held the Friars to a shooting percentage of 33.3 in the first 20 minutes, helping St. John's take a 42-30 lead into halftime.
The Red Storm continued to play well on offense in the second half, as they netted 45.8 percent of their field goal tries. Providence improved their scoring output in the final period with a 46.7 shooting percentage, but that included a 2-of-11 mark from 3-point range.
St. John's outscored the Friars from beyond the arc, 30-18, but was heavily outrebounded by Providence, 44-29.
