Penn St. Nittany Lions

Penn St. Nittany Lions VS. Dartmouth Big Green

Dartmouth (5-5) at Penn State (11-1)

GAME NOTES: The Penn State Nittany Lions take aim at some history on Monday afternoon when they host Dartmouth in a non-league clash at the Bryce Jordan Center.

Penn State has won nine games in a row and will try for a school-record 12th straight non-conference victory at home on Monday. The Nittany Lions, off to their best start since 1995-96, are coming off Saturday's 73-68 win over Drexel. This is their final non-conference game before opening Big Ten play on New Year's Eve at Wisconsin.

Dartmouth notched a 58-55 overtime victory against Northern Illinois this past Friday on Alex Mitola's 3-pointer at the buzzer. The victory was the fourth in the last five games for the Big Green. Following this tilt, they'll get a break from game action until visiting Bryant on New Year's Eve.

PSU leads the all-time series, 2-1, although this is the first time these teams have met since 1973.

Alex Mitola took control of the overtime period against Northern Illinois with four 3-pointers, including the game-winner at the buzzer. In fact, Mitola scored all 12 of his team's points in the extra session. Then again, the Big Green put themselves into bonus play after being outscored 27-13 in the second half. They were leading 33-19 at intermission. Dartmouth shot just 33.9 percent for the game but committed only 10 turnovers, compared to 19 by the Huskies. Gabas Maldunas joined Mitola in double figures with 11 points to go along with seven rebounds and two steals.

On the season, Mitola leads the team in scoring with 15.2 ppg and is shooting at an impressive 47.4-percent clip from the perimeter (35-of-76). Maldunas (11.4 ppg, 7.3 rpg) and Connor Boehm (10.3 ppg, 7.0 rpg) have taken care of business in the paint, and both are shooting better than 50 percent from the floor.

Penn State is led by senior D.J. Newbill, the Big Ten's leading scorer with 21.8 ppg. Newbill is also averaging 5.0 rebounds 1.4 steals, and he is shooting 39.2 percent from the perimeter and 79.3 percent from the foul line. Brandon Taylor (10.7 ppg, 6.5 rpg) and Shep Garner (10.3 ppg) are also averaging double figures. Each member of that trio has made at least 20 3- pointers on the season.

Penn State held a 58-38 lead over Drexel with 7:23 remaining in regulation of Saturday's game. The Dragons then went on a 15-0 run to make it a five-point game with four minutes remaining. However, the Nittany Lions would eventually prevail by making 7-of-8 free throws in the final minute. Newbill led the way with 20 points, followed by Taylor with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

The Nittany Lions are unbeaten at the Bryce Jordan Center in 2014-15 and have won 11 straight home games against non-league foes dating back to last season. Look for PSU to get that piece of school history with another victory here.
