OREGON ST. BEAVERS

Oregon St. Beavers

Oregon St. Beavers VS. UCLA Bruins

UCLA (11-7) at Oregon State (12-5)

GAME NOTES: Oregon State aims for continued domination at Gill Coliseum, as the Beavers host the UCLA Bruins in Pac-12 Conference action on Thursday.

The Beavers are a perfect 10-0 in their own building this season, marking their best start at home since 1984. The team is coming off a pair of road dates last week, first losing to Washington (56-43) before capturing a 62-47 victory versus Washington State in order to move to 3-2 in league play.

Also having won three of their first five league outings, the Bruins have managed to rebound from consecutive defeats at the hands of Colorado and 10th- ranked Utah to begin the conference slate. The team should be well-rested given that its been out of action since Jan. 14 when it tripped up USC on the road by a score of 83-66. The win was the third in a row for a program that had dropped five straight prior to that.

UCLA owns a commanding 90-36 advantage in the all-time series between the programs, but OSU has been competitive in Corvallis with 27 victories in 64 opportunities.

Norman Powell scored a game-high 22 points, leading five players in double figures for the Bruins, as they demolished USC on the road last week. Bryce Alford added 21 points, shooting 5-of-8 behind the 3-point line, followed by Tony Parker with 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor. Kevon Looney responded with a double-double consisting of 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds as UCLA crushed the Trojans on the glass, 41-20.

Alford, a career 10.5 ppg scorer, leads the Bruins with his 15.7 ppg as one of five players putting up double figures currently. However, one of the big differences between Alford and his cohorts is that he is also averaging close to six assists per game. Powell checks in with 15.2 ppg, a considerable jump from his career 8.6 ppg over the course of 123 appearances for the Bruins. In his first year with UCLA, Looney is averaging a double-double with 13.0 points and 10.3 rebounds per contest, the latter leading the program.

The last time the Beavers were in action they were on the attack against Washington State at Beasley Coliseum and ended up leading from start to finish in a 15-point victory. Despite occupying one of three guard positions, Langston Morris-Walker finished with a double-double consisting of 22 points and 11 rebounds, hitting on all but one of his four 3-point tries along the way. Gary Payton II, who not that long ago recorded a triple-double for the group, accounted for 13 points, 13 boards, and five steals.

Keeping scoring to a minimum, particularly in conference action, the Beavers are producing only 55.4 ppg, but at the same time allowing an identical number to the opposition. Morris-Walker checks in with 12.4 ppg in those five league bouts, followed by Payton II who pairs his 10.2 ppg with a team-high 8.0 rpg and a total of 13 steals, the latter being slightly more than half the program's total heading into action this week.

For the first time in more than two decades the Beavers have their sights set on winning a third straight game against UCLA at home, and as long as Payton II can get his numbers and at the same time slow down the Bruins offense it sounds like a good bet for the hosts.

Predicted Outcome

Oregon State 58, UCLA 54
