Oregon Ducks VS. Arizona St. Sun Devils

Arizona State (8-7) at Oregon (13-4)

GAME NOTES: The Arizona State Sun Devils close out a three-game road trip on Saturday as they visit fellow Pac-12 Conference member Oregon at Matthew Knight Arena.

The Sun Devils, who are slated to play just two home games in a span of roughly four weeks, find themselves just a game over .500 as they hit the floor in Eugene. The team has come up empty in the first two conference games of the season, falling hard to eighth-ranked Arizona last weekend, 73-49, and then being taken down by Oregon State two nights ago in a 55-47 final

While the Sun Devils are in the midst of a considerable stretch away from home, Oregon is finishing up a seven-game homestand with this particular meeting. The Ducks have split the first two conference games, first taking down in-state rival Oregon State a week ago, and then being toppled by Arizona on Thursday night, 80-72.

As far as the all-time series is concerned, ASU is ahead by a count of 42-34. The teams are slated to face each other once more during the regular season at the end of this month in Tempe.

Were it not for the fact that Arizona State made a mere seven field goals in the first half, shooting 35.0 percent from the floor and 1-of-7 behind the 3- point line against Oregon State, there's a good chance the Sun Devils may not have landed in the loss column yet again on Thursday. However, the team did finish with almost as many turnovers (16) as field goals (17) and was a mere 9-of-16 at the free-throw line, while being held down on the glass (34-24) by the Beavers.

Shaquille McKissic and Eric Jacobsen with the only two to finish in double figures for ASU with 11 points apiece, the latter also producing a game-high seven rebounds and posting two blocked shots in the losing effort. The team shot a season-low 19.0 percent beyond the arc and have now made six or fewer triples in six of the last seven outings.

McKissic and Jacobsen, both of whom have started every game, are averaging 10.5 and 10.0 ppg, respectively, the latter also pulling down a team-high 7.1 rpg and accounting for 22 of the unit's 37 blocked shots. Gerry Blakes paces the team overall in scoring with 11.3 ppg, although his 28.1 percent effort on the perimeter leaves a lot to be desired.

Oregon managed to stay within five points of the Wildcats at the break on Thursday, but the team then shot only 32.1 percent from the floor, 2-of-13 behind the 3-point line and was outscored at the charity stripe in the second half by a 20-8 margin, easily giving Arizona plenty of cushion for the victory on the road.

For the Ducks, who trailed the entire night, Joseph Young scored a team-best 12 points on a mere 4-of-15 shooting from the floor, followed by Jordan Bell with 11 points and five rebounds. Dillon Brooks accounted for nine points and adding four blocked shots, to the three logged by Bell.

Less than halfway through the 2014-15 campaign, Bell already has 51 rejections to his credit, matching the single-season school record, and he's just a freshman. As a team, Oregon has turned in 91 blocked shots, which is just 22 shy of the program's mark from all of last season.

At the offensive end of the floor, Young takes charge with 19.6 ppg, thanks to his 52-of-56 (.929) shooting at the free-throw line, followed by Brooks (13.8 ppg) and Elgin Cook (10.9 ppg).

Enjoying the support of the hometown crowd and the defensive presence Bell provides in the paint, Oregon should be set for another victory in conference play this weekend.

Predicted Outcome
