OAKLAND, MICH. GOLDEN GRIZZLIES

Oakland, Mich. Golden Grizzlies

Oakland, Mich. Golden Grizzlies VS. Chicago St. Cougars

Chicago State (2-3) at Oakland (0-4)

GAME NOTES: Regional action of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic rolls along Tuesday evening, as the Oakland Golden Grizzlies host the Chicago State Cougars in non-conference play at the O'Rena.

Following losses against Arizona State and Creighton on the road to begin the season, the Cougars had bounced back with consecutive victories. However, after taking down both IU-Northwest and Trinity Christian, CSU went back into the loss column after being crushed by Georgia State on Monday in a 69-46 final.

Meanwhile, the Golden Grizzlies are still seeking their first victory of the 2014-15 campaign. The squad has dropped four straight out of the gate after bowing to Western Carolina in double-overtime yesterday, 88-79.

Former members of the Mid-Continent Conference from 2000-07, these two teams have a history which shows Oakland with a 13-5 advantage in the all-time series, although the Grizzlies lost the most recent meeting in this building back in 2007 by a score of 79-78.

Both sides will be back on the floor Wednesday as well, with the Cougars taking on Western Carolina and Oakland hosting Georgia State to close out the event.

The Cougars were held to a mere 13 points in the first half versus Georgia State on Monday, shooting a woeful 5-of-18 from the floor, including 1-of-7 behind the 3-point line, while turning the ball over 17 times in the 20-minute span. The second half wasn't nearly as bad as the Cougars matched the opposition in the points column, but still Chicago State made a mere nine field goals in the frame.

For the game, the Cougars had far more turnovers (23) than baskets (14), leaving Anthony Glover and Clarke Rosenberg as the lone double-digit scorers for the program with 16 and 14 points, respectively, although each fumbled the ball away four times.

Rosenberg, the leading scorer for the program in each of the first four games, is posting 19.2 ppg as the lone double-digit performer heading into action on Tuesday. Glover is on the verge with his 9.6 ppg, thanks to 44.0 percent accuracy beyond the arc, but still the team is being outscored on the average by slightly less than one point per contest.

After shooting an impressive 60 percent from the field in the second half against Western Carolina on Monday, the Grizzlies proceeded to convert a mere 2-of-11 in the two overtimes, sending them to yet another defeat. Kahlil Felder responded with a team-best 26 points, adding seven rebounds, six assists and four steals, but at the same time he was charged with half the unit's 12 turnovers. Corey Petros tallied 14 points, Tommie McCune 12 and Dante Williams 11 points off the bench as the team utilized only three reserves.

Oakland has had a different leading scorer each time out this season, but overall it is Felder who paces the offense with 19.5 ppg, even though his mere 35.3 percent shooting from the field is rather lacking. McCune and Petros check in with 17.0 and 14.3 ppg, respectively, as the team generates 77.2 ppg, but at the same time is surrendering a massive 88.0 ppg.

In addition to being quite forgiving at the defensive end of the floor, the Golden Grizzlies are also dealing with the fact that they had to played extra on Monday. However, if there was a team in this tournament that Oakland could topple, even with the odds against it, it would be Chicago State.
