Uncasville, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - LaDontae Henton notched a career-high 38 points as the Providence Friars held off the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 75-74, as part of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off at Mohegan Sun Arena.

The Friars started strong, shooting 53.8 percent from the floor and hitting 6- of-7 at the free-throw line in the opening half. The Irish weren't quite as strong, converting field goals at a 46.7 percent clip, which included a mere 2-of-11 from beyond the arc. Providence led 39-35 at the half.

The visitors continued to shoot well from the field in the second half (.583), and Notre Dame also improved and shot 54.5 percent from the floor, including 5-of-10 on the perimeter. The Irish got out to an eight-point lead with 5:22 left, their largest of the contest.

Over the next two minutes, however, the Friars erased the deficit with an 8-0 run, tying the game at 66-66 on a Henton layup. Down by a point with 14 seconds remaining on the clock, Henton sank a pair of free throws to put the Friars up one. Connaughton's bid for a game-winner in the final seconds fell short of the basket.

The Friars, who were credited with a mere three offensive rebounds, converted all but one of their 14 free-throw attempts on the afternoon.
