Western Kentucky (3-4) at Ole Miss (6-2)
GAME NOTES: The Ole Miss Rebels play host to the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Saturday afternoon at Tad Smith Coliseum.
Ole Miss bounced back from a home loss against TCU last week with a win at Oregon, 79-73, last Sunday. Stephan Moody poured in 22 points on the strength of four 3-pointers, Sebastian Saiz added 17, and three players off the bench -- LaDarius White, Dwight Coleby and Aaron Jones -- all scored in double figures.
The triumvirate of reserves helped Ole Miss outscore Oregon in bench points, 35-5, and the team also posted a 41-28 advantage in the paint. The win was especially satisfying considering the usually-productive Jarvis Summers was limited to one point before fouling out.
Summers had been averaging a team-high 13.7 ppg before his recent dud, but Moody stepped up and moved past him with an even 14.0 ppg. White has been a consistent performer off the bench, as he is filling it up at an 11.9 ppg clip.
Defense, though, has been the reason behind Ole Miss' 6-2 start, as opponents are scoring just 62.9 ppg on a .353 shooting percentage.
After holding their previous two opponents under 60 points, the Hilltoppers were a sieve on defense last Saturday as they dropped a 93-81 decision to longtime rival Murray State. WKU made better than half their shots, but Murray State shot an even better 56.7 percent from the field and connected on 11 3- pointers.
T.J. Price paced WKU with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor. George Fant contributed 19 points and a team-high seven boards, while Chris Harrison- Docks and Trency Jackson netted 15 and 13 points, respectively.
The Hilltoppers have faced a tough schedule thus far, leading to a 3-4 start to the season. They have committed four more turnovers than their opponents (16.7 per game) and are netting just 65.7 ppg.
Price leads the way with 14.1 ppg. while Fant is putting up 10.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per contest. Harrison-Docks is also logging 11.9 ppg.
WKU has lost five straight true road tests dating back to last season and is 0-4 all-time against the Rebels, including a 79-74 setback last December.
