MINNESOTA GOLDEN GOPHERS

Minnesota Golden Gophers

Minnesota Golden Gophers VS. UNC-Wilmington Seahawks

UNC Wilmington (5-4) at Minnesota (10-2)

GAME NOTES: The Minnesota Golden Gophers will put a seven-game win streak on the line as they play host to the UNC Wilmington Seahawks in a non-conference affair Saturday at Williams Arena.

UNC Wilmington sports a 5-4 overall record coming into this non-conference clash - the second-to-last one before the Seahawks kick off conference play - but have lost four games on the road this season. UNCW dropped a 69-63 decision to Campbell in the team's latest outing.

Minnesota has won seven in a row to get to the 10-win plateau already in this early season. The Gophers have played their last five in the confines of Williams Arena, and will host UNCW as the sixth consecutive home game. Minnesota most recently took down Furman, 86-76, in their last clash.

The only other time in history these two programs have met on the floor was back in the 2001 season. The Seahawks took the contest at Minnesota, 58-50, giving them the 1-0 all-time advantage.

Turning the ball over 16 times in the loss to Campbell didn't help UNC Wilmington's cause for a win. And allowing the Camels to connect on 54.2 percent of their shots from the field didn't help either. Dylan Sherwood came off the bench to score 12 points to pace the Seahawks in the losing effort, while Addison Spruill netted 11 with seven rebounds. Craig Ponder and Jordon Talley each contributed 10 points in the loss, while Chuck Ogbodo grabbed a team-best nine rebounds.

Freddie Jackson had eight points and eight rebounds against Campbell, which wasn't enough to help his team earn a victory, but it was enough for him to keep his team-leading scoring average, which not sits at 16.0 ppg on 50.4 percent shooting. Ponder comes in behind Jackson in scoring, adding in 11.7 ppg, while Spruill rounds out the trio of double-digit scorers for the Seahawks, netting 11.6 ppg. Cedrick Williams leads the team in rebounding coming into the contest with Minnesota, averaging 7.9 boards per outing.

Minnesota's offense was humming against Furman in the Gophers' latest outing. The home squad netted 52.5 percent of its shot attempts from the floor, and forced 19 Furman turnovers to cruise to the 10-point victory. Joey King contributed 19 points to pace the Gophers in the win, while DeAndre Mathieu added 16 points with seven assists, five steals and five turnovers. Nate Mason chipped in 14 points, and Maurice Walker scored 11 with seven rebounds to round out the team's double-digit scorers in the win.

Minnesota has proven its lineup is well-rounded this season, especially as a unit on both ends of the floor. The team as a whole is scoring 81.0 ppg on 49 percent shooting, while the defense is only giving up 62.8 ppg to opponents, who are connecting on 39.9 percent of their shots. Andre Hollins leads the scoring charge for the Gophers, netting 14.1 ppg. Carlos Morris (12.1 ppg), Walker (11.5 ppg) and Mason (10.1 ppg) make up the contingent of double-digit scorers for Minnesota this season. Matheiu leads the team as the court general, having dished out 75 assists already.

Minnesota is on a huge roll, especially at Williams Arena where the team is 8-1 on the season. The Gophers should have no issues keeping it going against a team that averages 73.7 ppg.
