MEMPHIS TIGERS

Memphis Tigers

Memphis Tigers VS. Oral Roberts Golden Eagles

Oral Roberts (4-5) at Memphis (5-4)

GAME NOTES: The Memphis Tigers continue their nine-game homestand on Saturday afternoon when they battle the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles at FedEx Forum.

This is game No. 6 of the residency for the Tigers, who have won back-to-back contests, most recently securing a victory against USC Upstate on Wednesday.

The Golden Eagles were throttled, 85-53, on Tuesday night at No. 15 Oklahoma. That snapped a two-game win streak.

Memphis leads the all-time series against Oral Roberts by a 6-2 count. The Tigers have captured the last six encounters, with the Golden Eagles last winning on March 16, 1975.

Memphis posted its highest offensive output of the season with an 83-73 win over USC Upstate. The Tigers set a season-high for 3-pointers made with 11, and were led by career-bests of 17 points and 12 rebounds from junior Trahson Burrell. RaShawn Powell notched 18 points and eight assists, and Avery Woodson scored a season-high 16 points. Memphis shot 50.9 percent from the field.

The Tigers are led offensively by three players who average just under 11 points per game. Sophomore forward Austin Nichols (10.9 ppg), Burrell (10.8 ppg) and Shaq Goodwin (10.1 ppg, 6.6 rpg) are the only players in double figures. Memphis is holding teams to just under 62 ppg, and a big reason is strong interior defense. Nichols, a 6-foot-8 forward, has 29 blocks. That's over half his blocks total from a season ago (42). Burrell, a junior college transfer, is second on the squad in rebounding (5.7 rpg).

Oral Roberts, which has yet to win on the road this season, had a game-high 19 points from Bobby Word in its loss to Oklahoma. Albert Owens scored 12 for the Golden Eagles, who shot 33.3 percent in the game and outrebounded Oklahoma 41-35. Word scored 16 of the last 17 points for Oral Roberts.

Obi Emegano (15.0 ppg) leads the Golden Eagles in scoring. Korey Billbury (12.9 ppg) is second, followed by Word (10.1 ppg). Billbury (6.4 rpg) paces the team on the glass. Denell Henderson (7.1 ppg) is also part of the starting lineup for a team that has come up with varying results this season. When the Golden Eagles win, they average 78 points, but in their defeats it's just 54.4 ppg.

The nine-game homestand is the longest for Memphis since 1979-80 when the Tigers also played nine consecutive home games in December and early January. Memphis has displayed strong defense this season, and there's no reason to think the Golden Eagles will be able to solve Josh Pastner's team in this contest.

Predicted Outcome

Memphis 65, Oral Roberts 52
