Recap: Memphis vs. UCF
Memphis, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Led by 16 points and 10 rebounds from Shaq Goodwin, the Memphis Tigers downed the UCF Knights, 99-79, in an American Athletic Conference matchup at the FedEx Forum.
For the Tigers (11-6, 4-2 AAC) Nick King also added 16 points, Calvin Godfrey finished with 12 points and Trashon Burrell posted a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Daiquan Walker led the Knights (9-8, 2-4) with 18 points, while B.J. Taylor finished with 17 points and Brandon Goodwin chipped in with 12 points.
Both teams struggled from the floor in the first half. The Tigers took a 39-28 lead at intermission, though they hit on just 38.9 percent of their shots from the field, including 4-of-13 from 3-point range. The Knights were even worse from the floor, shooting a woeful 22.2 percent from the field in the half, including 1-of-6 from beyond the arc. Memphis opened the game on a 13-3 run to take early control of the contest, and led by as many as 16 in the period.
The Tigers got hot from the floor after halftime, connecting on 63.2 percent of their shots, including a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc. UCF was even better, shooting 66.7 percent from the field, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range. UCF never challenged in the second half, as Memphis built its lead to as many as 24, and the Tigers coasted to victory.
The Tigers dominated the play down low, outscoring the Knights in the paint, 58-40, and outrebounding them, 53-24.
