Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Melo Trimble knocked in a game-high 31 points, leading the Maryland Terrapins past the Arizona State Sun Devils, 78-73, in the semifinal of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic at the Sprint Center.

Trimble shot 7-of-11 from the field and 13-of-14 at the free-throw line for the Terrapins (4-0). Dez Wells tallied 14 points and eight rebounds. Jake Layman added 12 points.

Jon Gilling notched 21 points on 7-of-11 from the floor to lead the Sun Devils (3-1), who suffered their first loss of the season. Bo Barnes (17 points), Eric Jacobsen (14) and Gerry Blakes (14) also reached double figures.

In the opening half, the Sun Devils shot 56.5 percent from the field, slightly better than their opponent's 46.4 percent, and they were up, 39-37, at the end of the first 20 minutes.

The Terrapins improved to shoot 48.4 percent from the floor and 8-of-10 from the free-throw line in the second half, while the Sun Devils dipped to 44.4 percent from the field. With 41 seconds left, Wells hit a jumper that broke a 73-73 tie, and Maryland knocked down 3-of-4 free throws to close out the game. The Terps' five-point margin of victory was their largest lead of the game.

Maryland dominated in the paint, outscoring its opponent 42-20 to gain an edge in an otherwise tight game.
