Marquette Golden Eagles

Marquette Golden Eagles VS. Georgetown Hoyas

Georgetown (13-5) at Marquette (10-8)

GAME NOTES: After a dominant win over conference rival Villanova on Monday, the Georgetown Hoyas will look to improve on a three-game win streak as they travel to face the Marquette Golden Eagles in a Big East clash at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Georgetown has won three straight games to improve to 13-5 on the season, with a 5-2 mark in Big East Conference play. The Hoyas dominated Villanova in the team's last matchup, beating the heavily favored Wildcats at home, 78-58. But on the road, the Hoyas are just 1-2 this season.

Marquette is headed in the other direction at the moment. The Golden Eagles have dropped two games in a row and three of their last four altogether, which includes a tight 60-57 defeat at the hands of St. John's on Wednesday. Marquette is just 2-4 in the Big East, but is 8-2 at home.

The all-time series between Georgetown and Marquette is all knotted up at nine games apiece. The programs first met during the 1941-42 season, and last played earlier this year in Washington, where the Hoyas took down the Golden Eagles, 65-59.

Villanova's offensive attack was simply not on point Monday against Georgetown, which limited the Wildcats to 27.3 percent shooting in the first half of the contest and to 34.1 percent from the field in the entire game. Meanwhile, the Hoyas hit on 51.1 percent of their tries in the game, and made 26-of-36 from the free-throw line to cruise to victory. D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera and Isaac Copeland each scored 17 points to lead the Hoyas in the win, while Jabril Trawick chipped in with 10 points in the effort. Joshua Smith tallied nine points and eight rebounds for Georgetown.

Smith-Rivera has picked up where he left off from last season in terms of his scoring output. The guard leads Georgetown with a 15.1 ppg mark, which ranks fifth in the Big East in individual scoring this season. He rounds out his impressive stat line with 4.1 rpg and 3.4 apg, adding in a team-best 30 steals. Smith is the only other player to own a double-digit point total for the Hoyas this season, as he enters the fray with a 12.3 ppg mark and a team- leading 6.4 rpg. Smith is connecting on 63.8 percent of his shots from the floor. The Hoyas average 71.9 ppg this season as a team on 46.7 percent shooting, and are limiting opponents to just 64.5 ppg through 18 contests.

Following the first half of Wednesday's contest, Marquette found itself down by just two points to St. John's at halftime, 26-24. The Golden Eagles kept things close all throughout the second half, but it was the Red Storm that were able to outlast Marquette in the final minutes of play for the three- point win. Matt Carlino continued his strong play in conference, netting 21 points with four steals to pace the Eagles. Steve Taylor Jr. came off the bench to score 13 points with nine rebounds in the loss. Marquette shot just 31.7 percent from the floor in the game, and turned the ball over 15 times that led directly to 14 St. John's points.

Since transferring over from BYU, Carlino has really stepped up his game. The guard is scoring an average of 13.9 ppg for the Golden Eagles behind 40.8 percent shooting, adding in 59 assists for the team, which checks in behind Derrick Wilson's 63 total helpers. Duane Wilson (11.1 ppg) and Luke Fischer (10.9 ppg) round out a trio of double-digit scorers for Marquette this season, although the Eagles are still only managing 67.1 ppg as a unit - last in the Big East. But the team has done a solid job of at least limiting opponent scoring, keeping challengers at 63.4 ppg.

Georgetown will have to not let its last win go to the team's head, but rather will need to use it as motivation going forward to do more damage in the Big East. Marquette has been strong at home, but relatively inconsistent in conference play.

Predicted Outcome

Georgetown 71, Marquette 63
