LSU Tigers VS. Southern Miss. Golden Eagles

Southern Miss (5-5) at LSU (9-2)

GAME NOTES: Seeking to extend a six-game win streak, the LSU Tigers will play host to the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in a non-conference clash at the Maravich Center.

Southern Miss closes out non-conference play with this trip to LSU. The Golden Eagles are on a two-game skid, and sport a 5-5 overall record on the season. Southern Miss is 0-4 away from home, and is closing out a three-game road trip in Baton Rouge, following setbacks at Jackson State (66-46) and Georgia State (68-55).

LSU, on the other hand, is playing the second leg of a three-game homestand. The Tigers are a perfect 6-0 at home this season, and are 9-2 overall thanks to the current win streak. The Tigers haven't lost since Nov. 24 (64-61 to Clemson) and posted a lopsided 71-47 win over the College of Charleston last time out.

LSU leads the all-time series against Southern Miss, 5-1, and owns a 5-0 mark at home. The last time these programs met on the floor was back in 2004, which resulted in an 88-84 overtime Golden Eagles victory.

Southern Miss dropped its most recent outing to Georgia State by 13 points, after the host Panthers gained a nine-point halftime lead over the Eagles - one they would not surrender. Chip Armelin scored 16 points to lead Southern Miss, while Rasham Suarez added 12 points with four rebounds and four assists. Matt Bingaya chipped in with 10 points, six rebounds and five turnovers. The Golden Eagles netted 38.8 percent of their shots from the floor in the loss, including 12-of-30 from 3-point range.

An ability to stay consistent offensively has escaped the Golden Eagles this season, who enter this clash against a tough LSU team netting just 61.7 ppg on 43.8 percent shooting. Bingaya comes into the fray leading the team in scoring, netting 15.6 ppg with a team-best mark in rebounding as well, grabbing 6.1 boards per outing. Armelin is second on the team in the scoring department, netting 10.3 ppg. The Golden Eagles are allowing opponents to score 66.2 ppg on 45.5 percent shooting, with a 34.3 percent touch from beyond the arc.

LSU dominated the College of Charleston in the team's most recent clash, as the Tigers routed the visiting Cougars, who shot just 28.1 percent from the floor. Jarell Martin led the way for the Tigers with 18 points, adding nine rebounds to his stat line. Jordan Mickey contributed 15 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double, and Keith Hornsby chipped in with 11 points. LSU also got a 37-point effort from its bench as the Tigers led from start to finish.

The Tigers will shoot to maintain their perfect 6-0 mark at home by overwhelming Southern Miss offensively. LSU comes into this contest netting an impressive 74.6 ppg on 46 percent shooting from the field. Martin leads the charge in the scoring department, averaging 16.9 ppg for the Tigers with 9.0 rpg (second only to Mickey's 9.9 rpg). Mickey comes in at 15.8 ppg, followed by Hornsby (13.5 ppg), Josh Gray (11.1 ppg) and Tim Quarterman (10.9 ppg), who round out the team's double-digit scorers. LSU is giving up just 66.1 ppg to opponents this season.

Southern Miss is trending downward at the moment, while LSU is on the rise after some impressive wins. The Tigers have played well on both ends of the court, and going against a sub-par Golden Eagles offense should yield similar results for the home squad.

Predicted Outcome
