Kansas St. Wildcats VS. Purdue Boilermakers

Recap: Kansas State vs. Purdue

Maui, HI (SportsNetwork.com) - Marcus Foster scored 24 points on an outstanding shooting display that carried Kansas State to an 88-79 win over Purdue in the opening game of the 2014 Maui Invitational.

Foster knocked down 5-of-8 attempts from 3-point range and went 9-of-14 from the field to help the Wildcats bounce back from a 69-60 loss at Long Beach State on Friday. Stephen Hurt added 11 points and Nino Williams and Wesley Iwundu supplied 10 each for Kansas State (3-1), which shot 53.3 percent as a team.

The victory matches the Wildcats up with second-ranked Arizona in Tuesday's winners bracket. Purdue (3-1) will take on Missouri, a 72-53 loser to Arizona on Monday, in the consolation round.

Kendall Stephens paced the Boilermakers, who began the season with three straight easy home wins over lesser competition, with 21 points. Isaac Haas finished with 19 in the loss.

Kansas State broke open a close game with an 18-3 first-half run that turned a two-point lead into a commanding 39-22 advantage. Foster tallied nine points during the surge.

Stephens ended the flurry by making two free throws to cut the margin to 15 at the half, and the Boilermakers pulled within 75-70 with under 3 1/2 minutes left by putting together a 9-2 spurt capped by a Stephens trey.

The Wildcats' Thomas Gibson scored on the other end, however, and Foster followed with a 3-pointer with 2:02 to play to thwart Purdue's comeback effort.
