Ball State (1-1) at IUPUI (1-2)
GAME NOTES: The IUPUI Jaguars will try to build off their first win of the season when they host the Ball State Cardinals at the newly renovated Fairgrounds Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
IUPUI was outmatched by Indiana State and Purdue in its first two contests, but rebounded with a 70-68 victory over Milwaukee on Wednesday.
After trailing by seven at halftime, the Jags rallied after the break and sealed the win with a late 7-0 run. DavRon Williams posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Marcellus Barksdale and D.J. McCall both added 10 points in the victory.
There are no IUPUI players averaging double digits in scoring for the season, though five average at least seven points per game. Barksdale leads the way with 9.0 ppg.
Ball State battled with nationally-ranked Utah in its home opener, but wound up coming out on the losing end. The Cardinals bounced back with a 101-62 thumping of IU Kokomo on Monday by shooting a stellar 62.3 percent from the floor.
Jeremie Tyler poured in 23 points, while Sean Sellers came off the bench and donated 18 points and six assists in the rout.
The 101 points were the most scored by the program since 2004.
The long ball has been pivotal for Ball State in the early going, as the team hit 10 against Utah and 11 more on Monday. Sellers has shot 7-of-10 from behind the arc in the first two games.
This in-state rivalry only dates back to 2000 and is led by Ball State, which has won six of the nine previous meetings.
A win on Saturday would get IUPUI back to .500 for the first time since Nov. 17, 2012, but the Cardinals and their balanced scoring attack should have something to say about that.
