IPFW Mastodons VS. Miami (Ohio) RedHawks

Miami-Ohio (2-5) at IUPU-Ft. Wayne (4-2)

GAME NOTES: Looking to put a stop to a four-game losing streak, the Miami-Ohio RedHawks hit the road and travel to face the IUPU-Fort Wayne Mastodons in a non-conference affair at Gates Sports Center.

Miami-Ohio started the season with a win against Southern Utah, 76-63, but since then the RedHawks are 1-5 and on a four-game skid. The team dropped a close contest to intrastate rival Dayton, 66-62, on Wednesday to slip to 2-5 on the season.

IUPU-Fort Wayne has won two of its last three games, and sports a 4-2 overall mark headed into this clash. The Mastodons are coming off an 87-76 win over Stetson Wednesday.

The two sides have met just three times on the hardwood in the all-time series. Miami leads IPFW, 2-1, which includes a 94-87 victory over the Mastodons last December.

Miami performed well offensively in the team's close loss to Dayton, which made a run to the Elite Eight just last season. The RedHawks connected on 48.9 percent of their shots in the game, but ultimately lost it from the free-throw line, where Dayton made 22 shots and Miami only connected on nine. Willie Moore came off the bench to score 14 points before he fouled out. Eric Washington netted 12 points with eight assists, and Chris Bryant chipped in 10 points before he fouled out of the contest as well.

Will Sullivan scored eight points in the loss to Dayton, which lowered his team-leading scoring average to 10.7 ppg. Washington is the only other Miami player to net a double-digit scoring total this season, coming into the matchup against IPFW netting 10.3 ppg with a team-best 40 assists. The RedHawks have struggled offensively, netting just 61.1 ppg while they allow opponents to score 64.7 ppg on 45.8 percent shooting from the floor. Bryant is the team's leading rebounder, coming at 4.4 boards per outing.

IPFW got back in the win column following a devastating one-point defeat at Dartmouth with a nice 11-point win over Stetson. The Mastodons connected on 50 percent of their field goal attempts in the game, and made 12-of-30 from 3- point range. Steve Forbes tallied a 22-point, 10-rebound double-double to lead the squad in both statistical categories. Mo Evans chipped in with 20 points, and both Joe Reed and Michael Calder netted 10 points to help the Mastodons to the victory.

Four players on IPFW average scoring numbers in the double figures. Forbes checks in at the top of the list with 15.0 ppg on 56.6 percent shooting, adding in a respectable 6.0 rpg. Isaiah McCray contributes 12.3 ppg with a team-leading 7.7 rpg, and Evans is right behind McCray averaging 12.2 ppg. Joe Edwards rounds out the group of four with an 11.3 ppg mark for a team averaging 76.7 ppg on an impressive 47.8 percent shooting. The Mastodons are allowing opponents to net 69.0 ppg this season.

Not only will Miami-Ohio find it difficult to play in its first real road game this season, but the team has to navigate its way through a very tough offensive squad in IPFW. The Mastodons should be able to score enough to bury the RedHawks in this one.
