Georgia St. Panthers VS. Western Carolina Catamounts

Western Carolina (2-2) vs. Georgia State (2-2)

GAME NOTES: Regional action in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic continues on Tuesday, as the Western Carolina Catamounts and the Georgia State Panthers collide at the O'Rena.

The Catamounts, who have won two in a row after losing back-to-back decisions out of the gate in 2014-15, will be a tired bunch after having gone to double- overtime in order to defeat host Oakland on Monday in an 88-79 final.

As for the Panthers, they too have broken even after four games on the campaign by snapping a two-game slide and claiming a lopsided 69-46 triumph over Chicago State Monday afternoon.

Following this first-ever meeting, both teams will be back in action on Wednesday as the Catamounts go up against Chicago State and Georgia State clashes with Oakland.

Defense took center stage for the Panthers on Monday as the team held Chicago State to a mere 29.2 percent shooting from the floor and forced a massive 23 turnovers while the Cougars tallied just 14 made field goals. It also helped that Georgia State outscored the opposition by a 24-13 margin at the free- throw line in the 23-point decision.

Ryan Harrow dominated the contest with 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field, followed by R.J. Hunter and Curtis Washington with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Transfer Kevin Ware continues to have trouble finding a groove however, left with only five points on 2-of-8 from the floor.

Harrow, the leading scorer for the Panthers in three of the first four games, is one of the nation's top producers at the moment with his 21.5 ppg, while his 19 assists also paces GSU. Hunter, the only other double-digit scorer for the Panthers, accounts for 19.3 ppg and another 18 dishes, while converting 40 percent behind the 3-point line.

Against host Oakland, the Catamounts were pushed to a pair of overtime sessions on Monday evening but still ended up surviving by nine points thanks to the starting five which accounted for all but 12 of the 88 points registered. James Sinclair and Rhett Harrelson both responded with 20 points, the former adding nine rebounds and four assists, while Mike Brown tallied 17 points before fouling out and Torrion Brummitt 16 and a game-high 10 rebounds during his 31 minutes of action.

Shooting an impressive 50.8 percent from the field Sinclair, who has at least held a share of the scoring lead in every game thus far, accounts for a hefty 24.0 ppg and is second with 6.5 rpg and a total of 10 assists. Harrelson checks in with another 14.8 ppg as the pair combine for make 24 of the unit's 33 made 3-pointers in the early going. Not to be overlooked is Brown with his 13.0 ppg, even though his 7-of-25 on the perimeter is lacking.

Both sides have considerable scoring punch on their rosters, but in this case those star performers might cancel each other out, which leaves the supporting casts to decide the outcome. Another key factor will be WCU's ability to bounce back after playing additional time on Monday.
