Georgia Bulldogs VS. Seton Hall Pirates

Seton Hall (9-1) at Georgia (5-3)

GAME NOTES: The Seton Hall Pirates take aim at their 10th win of the season when they pay a visit to the Georgia Bulldogs on Sunday evening.

Seton Hall has sprinted out to a 9-1 start, the lone setback coming in a 77-68 loss at nationally-ranked Wichita State on Dec. 9. Since then, the Pirates have won two straight, the most recent being an 89-69 rout of USF on the road this past Thursday. SHU will play one more non-league game at home versus Maine on Dec. 27 before opening Big East Conference action at home against St. John's on New Year's Eve.

Georgia enters this fray with a 5-3 record, and the team has been idle since posting a 64-57 win over visiting Colorado on Dec. 7. The two-week break being the program's longest in season in more than two decades. Following this clash, the Bulldogs will battle Mercer, Kansas State and Norfolk State before tipping off their SEC slate at home versus Arkansas on Jan. 6.

This bout marks the first meeting between Seton Hall and Georgia in men's basketball.

Angel Delgado scored 16 points to pace five double-digit scorers, as Seton Hall blew out USF a few days ago. Sterling Gibbs tallied 14 points and dished out six of the team's 18 assists, while Brandon Mobley finished with 11 points and five rebounds. Isaiah Whitehead and Khadeen Carrington pitched in with 10 points apiece, the former also dishing out five helpers, while the latter was credited with five boards. The Pirates hit 53.8 percent of their field goal attempts, which included a stellar 11-of-20 showing from 3-point range. Conversely, the Bulls missed all nine of their long-range launches.

Gibbs (16.6 ppg, 3.3 apg), Whitehead (12.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg) and Mobley (10.9 ppg, 5.2 rpg) are all averaging double figures in the scoring column for Seton Hall, which generates 74.1 ppg behind typical shooting efforts of .470 overall and .417 from beyond the arc. The Pirates' defensive stand permits just 61.5 ppg, with foes knocking down only 39 percent of their total shots, which encompasses a poor 28.2 percent showing from downtown. SHU is winning the battle on the boards as well (+4.4).

Solid play at both ends of the court was the key in Georgia's win over Colorado the last time out, as the Bulldogs knocked down 47.7 percent of their total shots, draining seven 3-pointers along the way, while limiting the Buffaloes to 35.6 percent field goal efficiency, which included just a 2-of-17 performance from out on the perimeter. Marcus Thornton scored 16 points, T.J. Frazier added 15, and Juwan Parker and Charles Mann contributed 10 apiece for the winning side.

From an offensive standpoint, Georgia has been productive in netting 74.6 ppg thanks to a .481 field goal percentage. The long-range shot hasn't been as kind, as only 31.9 percent of its 3-point tries find the bottom of the net. At the other end, foes are putting up 67.1 ppg, but are shooting only 38.9 percent from the floor, which includes a 31.2 percent effort on their 3-point attempts. Thornton (14.9 ppg, 7.0 rpg) leads the way both in scoring and rebounding, while Mann (12.0 ppg), Kenny Gaines (11.3 ppg) and Nemanja Djurisic (11.3 ppg) round out the unit's double-digit scorers.

Winning on the road is never easy, and it certainly won't be for the Pirates tonight. Still, they are the better all-around team, so expect them to prevail as they continue to make a case for their inclusion in the Top-25.
