Florida Atlantic (1-2) at Georgia (2-1)
GAME NOTES: The Georgia Bulldogs are back on the hardwood on Sunday after playing just two days earlier, as they host the Florida Atlantic Owls at Stegeman Coliseum.
Georgia played on Friday and cruised to an 82-60 triumph over Troy, so fatigue should not be a factor against FAU. Marcus Thornton and Nemanja Djurisic each netted 17 points to lead the way, while Charles Mann and Kenny Gaines combined for 26 points and 15 rebounds.
A commanding advantage in points in the paint, 56-20, and an 18-6 edge in points off turnovers were the difference makers for the Bulldogs, who have bounced back with two straight wins following a loss to rival Georgia Tech.
The foursome that dominated the Troy game are all averaging big numbers for the Bulldogs. Djurisic paces the squad with 15.3 ppg, Mann and Thornton both put up 13.0 ppg and Gaines, who made his first start on Friday, is donating 12.0 ppg.
Florida Atlantic topped Warner Southern (74-59) for its only win on the young season, but the Owls have lost both of their road games this season, including a 71-49 drubbing at Harvard on Thursday, a game in which they trailed, 38-20, at halftime.
Justin Massey paced FAU with 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor. Marquan Botley contributed 12 points in the setback, and the Owls finished with seven assists against 13 turnovers.
Scoring has been difficult in the early going for the Owls, as they have registered just 60.3 ppg over the first three contests. They do have four players averaging double digits, led by Botley's 11.3 ppg. Justin Raffington leads the team in rebounds with 7.3 per game to go with 10.3 ppg.
These programs have met twice before, the last coming in 2009, and Georgia has won both outings by comfortable margins.
With a trip to New York this week for the NIT Season Tip-Off, the Bulldogs could be looking past the Owls, but FAU does not have the firepower to compete in this one.
