Recap: Georgetown vs. Towson
Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera netted 16 points and made a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line to lead his Georgetown Hoyas past the Towson Tigers, 78-46, in a non-conference affair at the Verizon Center in the BB&T Classic.
Joshua Smith scored 12 points with seven rebounds for Georgetown (5-2), which snapped a two-game losing skid. Paul White chipped in with 11 points, Jabril Trawick had another 11 and Isaac Copeland scored 10 in the win.
Four McGlynn and John Davis each scored 10 points to lead Towson (7-2), which ended a seven-game winning streak. Davis grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds in the defeat for the double-double.
Georgetown was on fire in the first half, shooting 61.9 percent from the floor, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range. Towson connected on just 23.8 percent of its tries in the half, and trailed Georgetown at halftime, 40-17.
The Hoyas stayed hot in the second period, netting 50 percent of their attempts from the field. The Tigers improved to 56.5 percent shooting, which included an 0-of-3 mark from distance.
Georgetown held a 24-12 advantage in points off turnovers. Towson went 0-of-12 from beyond the 3-point arc in the loss, while the Hoyas made 11 shots from distance.
