Recap: Georgetown vs. Charlotte
Washington, D.C. (SportsNetwork.com) - L.J. Peak had 18 points to pace five- double-digit scorers for Georgetown, as the Hoyas out-lasted the Charlotte 49ers, 81-78, in non-conference play at the Verizon Center.
D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera added 13 points and Joshua Smith scored 12 for the Hoyas (7-3), who wrapped up a four-game homestand in winning fashion. Jabril Trawick notched a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Aaron Bowen also scored 11 points in 17 minutes off the bench.
Keyshawn Woods led the way with 16 points and six boards off the bench for the 49ers (6-5), who saw their modest two-game win streak come to a halt. Braxton Ogbueze contributed 12 points, and Mike Thorne, Jr. finished with 10 points to go along with seven rebounds and two blocks in the loss.
Georgetown grabbed a 38-31 halftime lead after out-scoring Charlotte in the paint, 20-8 during the opening frame.
GU led by 15 with 10 minutes to play, but Charlotte came roaring back behind a 24-10 run, highlighted by back-to-back 3-pointers from Ogbueze, to make it a 77-76 game with just under two minutes remaining. However, the Hoyas eventually staved off the threat by hitting four free throws in the final seconds.
GU committed only nine turnovers for the game, and the Hoyas also held a 43-32 rebounding advantage.
