Georgetown Hoyas VS. Charlotte 49ers

Charlotte (6-4) at Georgetown (6-3)

GAME NOTES: The Georgetown Hoyas welcome the Charlotte 49ers to the Verizon Center for a non-conference matchup on Saturday.

Charlotte is seeking a third straight win after handling Appalachian State on Thursday, 75-65. The 49ers will play four of their next five games on the road. Following this tilt, they will be off until Dec. 30 at Georgia Tech.

This contest wraps up Georgetown's four-game homestand. The Hoyas have been idle since a 76-49 win over Radford last Saturday. Following this game, they will take on Indiana next Saturday in the Indeed Invitational at Madison Square Garden.

These teams have met only once previously. Charlotte claimed a 79-67 victory over the Hoyas in the first round of the 1997 NCAA Tournament.

The 49ers trailed Appalachian State by five points at halftime, but they overcame that deficit with a 52.6-percent shooting effort from the floor in the second half. Reserve Torin Dorn paced four players in double figures for Charlotte with 14 points. Braxton Ogbueze was next in line with 13 points, while Willie Clayton and Keyshawn Woods each scored 12. The 49ers committed only 10 turnovers as they held a 20-10 edge in points off turnovers, along with a 21-9 advantage in second-chance points.

On the season, Braxton is shooting 41 percent from 3-point range and leads the team in scoring with 13.2 ppg. Dorn is second with 11.4 ppg despite coming off the bench in every game so far. Pierria Henry (11.0 ppg, 6.4 rpg) and Mike Thorne Jr. (10.8 ppg, 7.7 rpg) are also averaging double figures. One area of concern however, is the 49ers' 57-percent free-throw shooting through 10 games.

Georgetown is led by D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera, a 91-percent free-throw shooter who is averaging 13.9 points and 4.4 rebounds. Joshua Smith is averaging 13.6 ppg and 6.6 rpg while shooting a healthy 65.7 percent from the floor. The Hoyas have held foes to 38.3-percent shooting and are +8.8 in scoring margin.

GU had little trouble with Radford, turning an 11-point halftime lead into a 30-point cushion thanks to a 21-2 run to start the second half. Aaron Bowen led the way with 16 points off the bench, while fellow reserve Paul White scored 12 in the win. The Hoyas simply owned the glass, to the tune of a 39-24 rebounding advantage.

The 49ers will need to attack the boards if they hope to win this one on the road. They also can ill-afford missed opportunities at the charity stripe.

Predicted Outcome

Georgetown 79, Charlotte 69
