Recap: Detroit vs. Bowling Green
Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - A layup by Richaun Holmes at the buzzer was just what Bowling Green needed as the Falcons slipped by the Detroit Titans, 64-63, in a non-conference clash at Calihan Hall.
Holmes was a beast in the paint for the Falcons (4-0) as he not only scored 26 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the field, he cleared a staggering 18 rebounds and blocked five shots for the visitors as they remained undefeated. Jovan Austin and Jehvon Clarke both chipped in with nine points.
The Titans (4-3), who had a three-game win streak snapped, were led by Paris Bass with 17 points and Juwan Howard, Jr. with 14 during the close call. Anton Wilson, who converted 3-of-5 behind the 3-point line, accounted for 13 points.
Holmes, who played 16 minutes in the first half, registered his double-double in that period alone with 15 points and 10 boards, guiding BGSU to a 36-28 edge at the break.
In the second half Detroit responded with 52.2 percent shooting from the floor, allowing the team to come back from a 10-point deficit (54-44) at the 11:21 mark and take a 57-56 lead with just over four minutes to play, but in the end the hosts could not control the outcome.
The Titans were beaten soundly on the glass, 41-27, and managed to grab only four offensive rebounds on the afternoon.
