Detroit Titans

Detroit Titans VS. Bowling Green Falcons

Bowling Green (3-0) at Detroit (4-2)

GAME NOTES: Looking to remain perfect early in the season, the Bowling Green Falcons will travel to face the Detroit Titans in a non-conference clash at Calihan Hall Sunday.

Bowling Green enters the contest sporting a 3-0 record, having defeated Drake (77-58), Wright State (70-55) and Southeast Missouri State (62-54). The Falcons hit the road for just the second time all year.

Detroit just finished up with the Progressive Legends Classic, and narrowly defeated Toledo, 82-79, in the final round of the tournament. The Titans enter the contest against Bowling Green with a 4-2 overall ledger.

These two programs have met 39 times on the hardwood before, with this clash set to be the 40th all-time meeting. Detroit leads the series, 23-16, but Bowling Green has won the last three in a row.

The Falcons have prided themselves on interior defense and scoring in the paint. Bowling Green netted 36 points down low against Southeast Missouri State, and shot 40.4 percent from the floor in the victory. Only two players netted points in the double figures against the Redhawks, led by Richaun Holmes, who contributed 14 for the Falcons. The big man also added seven rebounds and a blocked shot, while Spencer Parker added 10 points in the win. The Falcons totaled 38 rebounds in the game, compared to just 30 boards and 20 points in the paint for SEMO.

Bowling Green isn't necessarily an offensive juggernaut, but the Falcons do plenty of damage on the defensive end. Netting 69.7 ppg, the Falcons are led by the forward Holmes in the scoring department. Holmes comes in with an 11.7 ppg mark, followed closely by Parker's 11.3 ppg average. Zack Denny adds in his 10.7 ppg to round out the trio of double-digit scorers. Holmes is the team leader in rebounding at 6.3 rpg, and in three contests the adept shot blockers has recorded 11 swats so far. Bowling Green as a unit is allowing opponents to score just 55.7 ppg through three outings.

Detroit is more of an offensive force than anything else, led by several key contributors that had an impact with the team last season. Against Toledo - one of the favorites in the Mid-American Conference - the Titans shot 52.6 percent from the floor and owned a 46-42 advantage in the second half that awarded the team the win. Juwan Howard Jr. paced the team with 28 points in the win, shooting 11-of-23 from the floor. Paris Bass had a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds, while guard Jarod Williams netted 13 points. Anton Wilson closed things out with 10 points in the three-point victory.

Howard, Wilson and Bass are the only three Detroit players that enter the game against Bowling Green averaging double-digit point totals. The Titans as a whole, however, are netting 70.3 ppg, and are holding opponents to 65.8 ppg through six contests. Howard comes in leading the team with a 19.7 ppg mark and an almost team-leading 5.3 rpg average. Bass is the only player that has a rebound average higher than Howard's, at 5.5 rpg with an 11.0 ppg margin. Wilson checks in at second on the team averaging 12.3 ppg.

Bowling Green can make waves this season with a stifling defense down low, but this contest will feature an exceptional matchup between Holmes and Howard, and Parker versus Bass. The home Titans have the edge, especially if Howard has his typical strong offensive performance.
