DAYTON FLYERS

Dayton Flyers

Dayton Flyers VS. Mississippi Rebels

Ole Miss (8-3) at Dayton (9-2)

GAME NOTES: The Dayton Flyers will look to close out non-conference play on a high note as they play host to the Ole Miss Rebels Tuesday evening at UD Arena.

Ole Miss will take on Dayton and then Austin Peay before conference play starts up. The Rebels have won their last two games over Coastal Carolina (71-68) and Southeast Missouri State (82-51) to earn an 8-3 record on the season. The Rebels are a perfect 2-0 on the road this season.

But that 2-0 road record is nothing compared to Dayton's 6-0 mark at home. The 9-2 Flyers are also on a two-game win streak, with victories over Boston University (78-62) and Georgia Tech (75-61).

Dayton owns a 5-0 all-time series lead over Ole Miss, with two of those five wins coming at Dayton. These two sides met last season, and battled to an 83-80 overtime decision for the Flyers in Oxford.

Perhaps this is the year the Rebels finally sink the Flyers in a head-to-head matchup. Ole Miss was dominant against Southeast Missouri State, as the Rebels netted 51 percent of their shots from the floor and sunk 26-of-31 from the free-throw line to take the 31-point victory. Terence Smith scored 16 points to pace the Rebels in the contest, while M.J. Rhett (14 points), Stefan Moody (13 points) and Sebastian Saiz (11 points) each chipped in a double-digit scoring figure. Saiz and Martavious Newby each pulled down a team-best seven boards.

Ole Miss has been offensively strong this season thanks to a trio of double- digit scorers that are all averaging at least 12 points per outing. Moody leads with 14.6 ppg for a Rebels squad that is scoring 71.7 ppg. LaDarius White chips in 12.7 ppg, and Jarvis Summers contributes 12.1 ppg. Summers is questionable to play in this contest with back spasms, after the guard missed the last outing against the Redhawks. The Rebels are holding opponents to 63.9 ppg on 36.7 percent shooting from the floor.

Dayton used a strong defensive effort in the second half against Georgia Tech to limit the Yellow Jackets to 30-percent shooting from the floor. The poor shooting performance by the visitors provided a perfect opportunity for the Flyers to open up a lead from which Georgia Tech could not come back. Jordan Sibert netted 24 points to lead the Flyers in the win, while Dyshawn Pierre chipped in with 19 points and six rebounds. Kyle Davis dished out six assists in the win.

Dayton's scoring offense is modest this season. The Flyers come into the clash with Ole Miss netting 67.1 ppg on 43.9 percent shooting from the floor. But the team's defense has held opponents to a mere 58.6 ppg on 39.2 percent shooting, which has been the real reason for the team's success. Sibert leads the team in scoring at 15.3 ppg, followed by Pierre's 11.4 ppg mark and Kendall Pollard's 10.1 ppg. Devon Scott (7.4 rpg) was suspended from the team, so Pierre's 6.3 rpg mark is now the best on the active squad.

It will be offense versus defense in this contest, although Sibert, Pierre and Pollard have proven to all be very capable scorers on the offensive end. The home advantage goes to Dayton, but the Rebels won't make this an easy contest to win.

Predicted Outcome

Dayton 66, Ole Miss 63
