Dayton Flyers VS. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech (8-2) at Dayton (8-2)

GAME NOTES: The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets play their last non-conference road game of the regular season on Tuesday, as they take on the Dayton Flyers at UD Arena.

Brian Gregory's Yellow Jackets are off to a fast start in 2014-15, winning eight of their first 10 games. Georgia Tech's two losses have come against Marquette and USC Upstate, but the team has won two straight games entering this contest, topping both Appalachian State (70-57) and most recently, Vanderbilt (65-60). Gregory was Dayton's head coach from 2004-11.

Archie Miller's Flyers began a four-game homestand on Saturday with a 78-62 rout of Boston University. The win moved Dayton to an equally strong 8-2 on the year with the losses coming to defending national champion UConn and SEC power Arkansas.

This marks the fourth all-time meeting between these two teams. Dayton has won all three prior matchups, including an 82-72 victory last year at McCamish Pavilion.

Tech trailed Vanderbilt by eight points at halftime (33-25), but shot a sterling .516 from the floor over the final 20 minutes to earn the five-point win. Charles Mitchell played a strong game up front, as the 6-foot-8 forward netted 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the win. Marcus Georges-Hunt added 14 points for Georgia Tech, which scored 18 points off of 13 Vandy turnovers. The Yellow Jackets also held a 39-30 edge in rebounding.

Strong defensive play and rebounding have fueled Georgia Tech's success this season. The team is yielding only 60.9 ppg on the year, while holding a +10.7 rebounding edge. Offensively, the Yellow Jackets are netting 67.4 ppg on a modest .433 shooting effort. There are only two players on the roster currently averaging double figures in Georges-Hunt (11.7 ppg) and Mitchell (10.5 ppg). Demarco Cox (9.9 ppg) however, is eager to join the group.

Dayton shot an efficient .520 from the floor and was 11-of-23 from behind the arc, as the Flyers cruised past BU last time out. The team also forced the Terriers into 18 turnovers, converting those into 16 points. Kendall Pollard and Darrell Davis led the way with 19 points apiece in the win. Jordan Sibert and Scoochie Smith tacked on 11 and 10 points, respectively. Smith was also responsible for eight of the team's 15 assists in the game.

Scoring at a high rate is not a strength of Dayton's this season. Instead, the Flyers usually employs stifling defense to win games. Opponents are averaging only 58.3 ppg on the year, as Dayton holds foes under 40 percent shooting (.392). Scoring depth comes in the form of three players in double figures, led by Sibert's 14.4 ppg. Dyshawn Pierre (10.6 ppg, 6.3 rpg) and Pollard (10.4 ppg, 5.0 rpg) are the other two. Devon Scott (9.1 ppg, 7.4 rpg) had been a vital contributor as well, although he was dismissed from school for violating the player's conduct policy recently.

The Flyers aren't as strong up front with the loss of Scott, but they remain dangerous, especially at home. Georgia Tech will attempt to enforce its will in the paint here and may be able to steal one on the road.

Predicted Outcome

Georgia Tech 66, Dayton 63
