DAVIDSON WILDCATS

Davidson Wildcats

Davidson Wildcats VS. Charlotte 49ers

Charlotte (4-2) at Davidson (4-1)

GAME NOTES: The Charlotte 49ers look to build off a thrilling overtime road win when they visit the cross-county rival Davidson Wildcats in a non- conference battle on Wednesday.

Charlotte pulled out a 66-63 squeaker over UNC Asheville on Sunday when Pierria Henry nailed a 3-pointer at the buzzer. After a Kem Ubaru layup tied the game with seven seconds left in OT, Henry drove the length of the floor and drained the deciding basket from the top of the key.

Braxton Ogbueze finished with 15 points to lead the 49ers, who enjoyed a 25-11 advantage in offensive rebounds and totaled 27 second-chance points.

Willie Clayton and Mike Thorne Jr. each recorded double-doubles and combined for 22 points and 28 rebounds -- with Thorne pulling down 18 of them.

Thorne is averaging team-bests of 14.8 points and 10.3 rebounds per contest. Ogbueze is chipping in 13.33 ppg, while Torin Dorn and Henry are nearly scoring in double figures.

On the heels of an 18-point loss to nationally-ranked North Carolina, Davidson has won two in a row, including a 72-49 thrashing of UNC-Wilmington last Saturday.

Peyton Aldridge tallied 17 points and nine rebounds, Jack Gibbs added 13 points, and eight other players scored in the rout. Davidson's dominance started early, as it outshot UNCW from the field in the first half, 41.2 percent to 28.6 percent, on its way to a 41-24 lead at intermission. The Wildcats' advantage never dipped below 13 in the second stanza.

Aldridge has seen his average rise to 12.0 ppg, and the freshman is also leading the team in rebounding at 6.8 rpg. Gibbs and Tyler Kalinoski continue to lead the Wildcats in scoring, averaging 15.8 and 14.6 ppg, respectively.

The road team as won the annual "Battle for the Hornets' Nest Trophy" the last two years, and Charlotte has won 12 of the last 16 meetings altogether.

The 49ers have already shown they can win in enemy territory, so another close victory against a familiar opponent may be in the cards.
