Boulder, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - JJ Avila notched 19 points with four steals as the Colorado State Rams held on down the stretch to beat the Colorado Buffaloes, 62-60, in a non-conference clash at Coors Events Center.

John Gillon scored nine points and made 7-of-10 from the free-throw line for Colorado State (9-0), which remains perfect on the season.

Xavier Johnson netted a game-high 20 points for Colorado (5-3). Askia Booker chipped in with 18 points, while Wesley Gordon grabbed 11 rebounds in the defeat.

Colorado connected on 45.8 percent of its tries from the floor in the first half, making a perfect 4-of-4 from 3-point distance, to take a 32-30 lead into the midway break. Colorado State shot 45.5 percent from the floor in the frame, and made 4-of-11 from beyond the arc.

But it was the Rams who came out strong in the second half behind 45.8 percent shooting from the field. The Buffaloes dipped to 35.7 percent shooting, which included a 1-of-5 mark from distance, en route to the narrow loss.

Colorado State had a slightly better effort in bench scoring over Colorado, 17-10, though the Buffaloes held a 40-26 edge in rebounding.
