Charlotte 49ers VS. Old Dominion Monarchs

Recap: Charlotte vs. Old Dominion

Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Trey Freeman scored 14 points and handed out six assists as the Old Dominion Monarchs held on to defeat the Charlotte 49ers, 61-54, in a Conference USA clash at Halton Arena.

Freeman, who shot just 5-of-14 from the floor and 3-of-6 at the free-throw line, was also charged with five of the 15 turnovers registered by ODU (12-1, 1-0 C-USA), but still the program's win streak reached nine in a row. Richard Ross and Aaron Bacote pitched in with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The 49ers (6-7, 0-1) were led by Torin Dorn with 13 points and five rebounds off the bench, while Willie Clayton tacked on 12 points for a team that has now dropped three in a row.

Charlotte led for a brief moment in the first half, but the host shot only 33.3 percent from the field in the period and was 1-of-4 at the free-throw line. The Monarchs managed to make good on just 3-of-9 beyond the arc in the frame, but still moved out to a 29-18 advantage at the break based on an even 50.0 percent effort from the floor overall.

In the second half ODU's lead grew to 17 points, but the team struggled a bit with only nine field goals, 3-of-12 on the perimeter and 11-of-19 shooting at the charity stripe. Nevertheless, the visitors still maintained a safe distance, en route to the seven-point victory.

The Monarchs survived 13-of-21 shooting at the free-throw line, thanks in part to a 37-24 edge on the glass.
