BOISE ST. BRONCOS

Boise St. Broncos

Boise St. Broncos VS. Montana Grizzlies

Montana (0-1) at Boise State (2-0)

GAME NOTES: The Boise State Broncos aim for their third win in a row to start the season as they host the Montana Grizzlies in non-conference action at Taco Bell Arena on Tuesday night.

The Broncos are celebrating their home opener after taking part in the LMU Classic in Los Angeles last Friday and Saturday, defeating the Loyola Marymount Lions (77-69) and San Diego Toreros (81-75).

Meanwhile, this is just the second game of the campaign for Montana, the second against a member of the Mountain West Conference as well, with the team having taken a tumble against Colorado State (83-66) in Fort Collins over the weekend.

Montana leads the all-time series by a 32-26 margin, although the games that have been played in Boise have gone to the Broncos more often than not (20-8).

The Grizzlies fell behind Colorado State right out of the gate in the opener and never recovered, converting just nine field goals to the 18 for the Rams in the first half, en route to the 17-point road loss. Jordan Gregory tried to give the team a fighting chance with his 17 points, but while he was a perfect 7-of-7 at the free-throw line, the starting guard knocked down just 4-of-12 from the floor. Mike Weisner, the only player to make more than three baskets, accounted for another 16 points and cleared five rebounds for a group that was crushed on the glass by a 39-26 margin and failed to fully capitalize on 17 turnovers by Colorado State.

Another issue for the Grizzlies in the first game of the season saw the starting five account for all but one of the unit's 13 turnovers.

Against host LMU, the Broncos went from shooting only 37.0 percent from the field in the first half to 58.3 percent after intermission in order to claim the eight-point road victory. Nick Duncan and Mikey Thompson both dropped in 15 points, the former shooting 5-of-9 behind the 3-point line while the rest of the roster combined to make only 3-of-14 on the outside. Anthony Drmic contributed another 12 points and Derrick Marks 11 to go with six assists.

While it has been just two games, the Broncos know full well that Drmic is their ticket to success. Shooting 47.6 percent from the field, Drmic is first with 16.5 ppg and second with 5.0 rpg, while Thompson has come off the bench in one outing and is still responsible for 13.5 ppg.

With several offensive options at their disposal, the Broncos can attack Montana in a variety of ways and that will be tough for the Grizzlies to combat in this meeting.
