West Long Branch, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - John Davis scored 10 points and cleared seven rebounds as the Towson Tigers defeated the Wildcats of Bethune- Cookman, 63-42, in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic at the Multipurpose Activity Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Tigers (3-1) were Four McGlybb and Eddie Keith who also delivered 10 points for the squad as they captured their third straight win since losing to Alabama in the opener, 82-54.
The Wildcats (1-3) were led by Mikel Trapp and his game-high 12 points, shooting 3-of-6 behind the 3-point line, while Quentin Brewer responded with 11 points and eight rebounds before fouling out.
Neither side shot the ball well from the field in the first half, especially the Wildcats who converted a total of only six field goals, 1-of-6 on the perimeter, as they trailed 24-16 at the break. Towson, which hit on 9-of-13 at the charity stripe, wasn't much better from the floor with a mere seven field goals on 21 attempts.
In the second half both teams improved ever so slightly, each hitting a total of nine field goals. But again, it was Towson's efforts at the free-throw line (19-of-25) that made most of the difference.
Since defeating Trinity in the season opener, 91-69, the Wildcats have dropped three straight decisions.
