ARKANSAS RAZORBACKS

Arkansas Razorbacks

Arkansas Razorbacks VS. Dayton Flyers

Dayton (7-1) at Arkansas (6-2)

GAME NOTES: Looking to extend a five-game win streak, the Dayton Flyers will hit the road to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks in a non-conference tilt Saturday at Bud Walton Arena.

Dayton suffered its only loss this season in Puerto Rico against UConn, 75-64, but the Flyers have come back nicely with five straight wins, the most recent being a 56-52 defeat of in-state rival Bowling Green. The Flyers are 1-0 on the road this season.

Meanwhile, Arkansas' is sporting a perfect 5-0 ledger at home. The Razorbacks are 6-2 entering this clash with Dayton, but have dropped two consecutive games against Iowa State (95-77) and Clemson (68-65).

These two programs have met only once on the hardwood. Back in 1990, the sides clashed in the NCAA Tournament, where the Razorbacks came away with a tight 86-84 victory.

Dayton came out a little sluggish against Bowling Green in the team's latest outing, as the Flyers went into the locker room after the first half trailing 32-24. Dayton missed all seven 3-point tries in the first frame, although Bowling Green wasn't much better, shooting a 1-of-8 clip. But thanks to a strong defensive effort in the second half, the Flyers held BGSU to 26.7 percent shooting to take the lead and the win. Devon Scott notched a double- double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Jordan Sibert came up two boards shy of his own, netting 11 points with eight rebounds.

It's been a strong start to the season defensively for the Flyers, who enter this contest against a powerful Arkansas team allowing just 56.5 ppg to opponents on 37 percent shooting. Meanwhile, a strong core of scorers for Dayton, led by Sibert's 14.4 ppg mark, help the Flyers to 66.3 ppg as a unit. Dyshawn Pierre contributes 11.6 ppg, and Kendall Pollard adds in 10.3 ppg. The big man Scott pulls down a team-high 7.4 rpg, though Pierre has a hand in a solid rebounding effort with 6.4 boards per outing.

Arkansas came up just short of a win against Clemson, losing by three points. The Tigers were allowed to connect on 46 percent of their shots in the contest, and used a physical game down low to earn an edge in rebounding over the Razorbacks. Michael Qualls played all 40 minutes and led Arkansas in scoring in the contest with 21 points, also grabbing six rebounds. Bobby Portis chipped in with 18 points and seven boards in the narrow defeat.

Although the offense wasn't working all that well in Arkansas' last contest, the Razorbacks haven't had many issues on that end of the floor this season in general. The team comes into the clash with Dayton netting 85.2 ppg on an impressive 45.8 percent shooting from the floor, which includes a 42.2 percent shooting touch from 3-point range. Portis leads the charge, averaging 15.5 ppg for Arkansas, while Qualls (15.4 ppg) and Anthlon Bell (11.4 ppg) are close in tow. Rashad Madden rounds out the group of double-digit scorers, netting 10.0 ppg. Portis sits atop the rebounding category as well, grabbing 6.5 boards per game.

These two squads are very offensively driven, but Dayton's defense has certainly stepped up through eight games this season. Arkansas is a different story, having played some extremely tough competition. At home, the Razorbacks will be a completely different monster than what Dayton has seen so far.

Predicted Outcome

Arkansas 78, Dayton 71
