Recap: Ark-Little Rock vs. CS-Northridge
Little Rock, AR (SportsNetwork.com) - James White recorded a double-double consisting of 18 points and 13 rebounds as the Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans captured a 94-88 victory in double overtime versus the Cal State Northridge Matadors in regional action of the Maui Invitational at the Jack Stephens Center.
J.T. Thomas added 17 points, Roger Woods 14, Ben Dillard 13 points and Maurius Hill 10 off the bench for the Trojans (2-1) as they secured the win in front of the hometown crowd.
Stephan Hicks led all scorers with 25 points, shooting 10-of-18 from the field and pulling down eight rebounds in the loss for the Matadors (2-2). Stephen Maxwell accounted for 23 points and 13 rebounds, followed by fellow starters Landon Drew and Tre Hale-Edmerson with 14 and 11 points, respectively, before both fouled out.
Cal State Northridge shot 48.3 percent from the field in the first half, including 3-of-4 behind the 3-point line, but still the Matadors trailed at the break by a 41-36 margin.
In the second half UALR struggled to find the basket, hitting a total of only nine field goals, a mere 1-of-10 beyond the arc along the way, allowing the Matadors to battle back and send the meeting into overtime knotted at 69-69.
During the first bonus session, neither side led by more than three points and with less than 10 seconds left on the clock, a pair of successful free throws by Dillard locked the score at 80-80.
CSUN scored the first points of the second overtime on a Hicks jumper, but from there the Trojans took control as White, Woods and James Reid all made crucial free throws down the stretch.
UALR outscored the visitors at the charity stripe by a 30-18 margin.
