Recap: Arizona State vs. Pepperdine
Tempe, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Shaquielle McKissic racked up 22 points and 11 rebounds, as the Arizona State Sun Devils extended their homecourt win streak with an 81-74 victory over Pepperdine in non-conference action from Wells Fargo Arena.
Eric Jacobsen added 20 points and nine boards for the Sun Devils (6-3), who notched their 14th straight home win. Gerry Blakes was next in line with 16 points, followed by Tra Holder with 15 off the bench.
Stacy Davis led all scorers with 26 points to go along with a team-high nine rebounds for the Waves (5-2). Atif Russell and Jeremy Major (six assists) each had 11 points in the loss, while Jett Raines and Amadi Udenyi (eight assists) scored 10 apiece.
ASU shot just 34.4 percent from the floor and went 0-for-6 from 3-point range in the first half, yet trailed by only a 31-29 margin at the break. The Sun Devils enjoyed a 12-2 edge in second-chance points during the opening frame and also outscored Pepperdine in the paint, 20-8.
The Waves pushed their lead to as many as seven early in the second stanza, but Arizona State ultimately proved too tough to contain. The Sun Devils went on to shoot 52.4 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes, and they held a decisive, 27-11 scoring advantage at the foul line in the second half.
The Sun Devils, who led by as many as 14 late in the contest, won the rebounding battle by a 40-25 margin.
