Zobrist returns to Rays’ lineup
Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) – The Tampa Bay Rays activated second baseman Ben Zobrist from the 15-day disabled list for their weekend series with the American League East-rival Boston Red Sox.
Zobrist, out since May 15 due to a dislocated left thumb he sustained while sliding head-first on a stolen base attempt, will bat second for Friday’s game at Fenway Park.
The 2013 AL All-Star went 1-for-4 with a walk in a rehab game with Single-A Charlotte on Wednesday.
Zobrist batted .260 with three home runs and nine RBI in 40 games prior to the injury.
The Rays cleared a roster spot by optioning infielder Cole Figueroa to Triple- A Durham during Thursday’s off day.
