Yanks place Kelley on DL
Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – The New York Yankees placed pitcher Shawn Kelley on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday with a strained lumbar spine.
The move is retroactive to May 7.
Kelley has been hampered by the back injury for over a week and underwent an MRI on Friday. He was unavailable for Monday’s series opener against the Mets.
The right-handed reliever is 1-2 with a 3.52 ERA and four saves in 16 games this season for the Yankees.
New York also recalled outfielder Zolio Almonte from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes- Barre.
