Yankees, Cervelli agree to 1-year deal
Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – The New York Yankees and catcher Francisco Cervelli avoided arbitration, agreeing to a one-year contract on Thursday.
Cervelli missed the remainder of last season after suffering a fractured right hand during an April 26 contest the Toronto Blue Jays. The injury eventually required corrective surgery.
The 26-year-old Venezuelan had won the Yankees’ starting catcher job in spring training and was having a fine start to the regular season, batting .269 (14- of-52) with three home runs and eight RBI in 17 games.
