Yankees activate Tanaka
Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – New York Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka was activated off the 60-day disabled list Sunday.
Tanaka had been sidelined since early July with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. Doctors recommended rehab rather than Tommy John surgery and the rookie began a throwing program before pitching an instructional league game in Tampa on Monday.
The Yankees opened a roster spot Sunday by designating pitcher Chaz Roe for assignment.
Tanaka, who signed a seven-year, $155 million contract with the Yankees in January, entered Sunday’s game against Toronto with a mark of 12-4 and a 2.51 ERA in 18 starts.
