Yankees acquire SS Ryan from Mariners
Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) – With captain Derek Jeter on the mend with a lingering ankle injury, the New York Yankees acquired shortstop Brendan Ryan from the Seattle Mariners Tuesday in exchange for a player to be named later.
Ryan, 31, appeared in 87 games with the Mariners this season and batted .192 with three home runs, 21 RBI and four stolen bases.
A seventh-round pick of the Cardinals in 2003, Ryan owns a career .238 average with 18 homers, 186 RBI and 67 stolen bases in 766 games over seven seasons with St. Louis and Seattle.
