Wise Dan training at home track Keeneland
Lexington, KY (SportsNetwork.com) – Two-time Horse of the Year Wise Dan is training at his home track of Keeneland in preparation for the $1 million Shadwell Turf Mile on Oct. 4.
The 7-year-old gelding, trained by Charlie LoPresti, put in a five-furlong workout over Keeneland’s turf course Tuesday stopping the timer at 1:01.20 with his regular exercise rider Damien Rock.
“I thought he worked really good,” LoPresti said. “These cones are really far out. He galloped out good. We’ll just see how he comes out of this one. Maybe we’ll work him on the dirt one more time.”
Owned by Morton Fink, Wise Dan was second to Silver Max in last year’s Shadwell Turf Mile when the race was moved to the main track because of heavy rains. The gelding had won the previous year on the turf.
The 7-year-old won the Bernard Baruch at Saratoga on Aug. 30 in his first start since undergoing emergency colic surgery on May 16. He began 2014 with a second straight win in the Maker’s 46 Mile at Keeneland on April 11 and won his second straight Woodford Reserve Turf Classic at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Derby Day.
Wise Dan, winner of the last two Breeders’ Cup Miles, has career earnings of $6,952,920 with 22 wins in 30 starts.
